LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Funeral arrangements have been announced for Louisville civil rights titan Ben Richmond.
Richmond was 80 years old when he died earlier this week. He was known for leading the Louisville Urban League for nearly 30 years, and for his work advocating for better economic development in the city's west end.
The Louisville Urban League announced Tuesday that former President and CEO Ben Richmond had died.
According to the LUL, visitation for Richmond is scheduled for next Friday, Jan. 26, from 4-7 p.m. at St. Stephen Baptist Church on South 15th Street in Louisville. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, starting with viewing and visitation from 10-11 a.m., followed by the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., also at St. Stephen Baptist Church.Â
Richmond will be buried at Cave Hill Cemetery.
Donations are encouraged to the Benjamin K. Richmond Legacy Endowment at the Louisville Urban League in lieu of cards and flowers. The endowment provides grants to entrepreneurs and scholarships to Jefferson County Public Schools graduates studying business. To donate, click here.
Richmond's family also encourages people to become blood donors, as Richmond battled Acute Myeloid Leukemia and received frequent blood transfusions to manage symptoms caused by the condition.Â
