LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky Humane Society in Louisville launched a campaign to raise money for a new Animal & Community Campus.

In a news release Thursday, KHS said the new location is planned for the 4900 block of Preston Highway, just south of Interstate 264. Once it's built, KHS hopes the new location will:

  • Expand dog and cat housing by 30% and facilitate nearly 7,000 adoptions each year
  • Open a new low-cost public veterinary clinic with 6,000 annual appointments
  • Perform 13,000 spay/neuter surgeries annually
  • Offer free counseling and pet support to 8,000+ families
  • Deliver humane education programming to 1,000+ children, teens and adults

The new location is planned to be more than 50,000 square feet, greatly expanding on what's possible in the current shelter, which was built in the 1950s.
