LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police released heavily edited body camera footage and personnel files of officers involved in a shooting of a fugitive at Shawnee Park over the weekend.
It happened at the Dirt Bowl tournament at the park around 8 p.m. on July 10. That's where officers spotted Herbert Lee -- who was wanted for three different warrants -- at the park. As officers approached Lee, they say he took off running.

The Louisville Metro Police Department released edited body camera footage from an officer involved shooting at Shawnee Park on July 10.
Police say Lee stumbled, pulled out a gun, then shot an officer in the chest. LMPD says officers returned fire, hitting Lee. He was taken to University Hospital, and was released on Thursday then booked at Metro Corrections. LMPD said he is expected to recover from his injuries.
In the edited body camera footage released by LMPD, officer Joshua Pickering, who was wearing a bullet-resistant vest and not seriously hurt. He is heard saying on the video, "I got hit, dude. It hit my vest."
LMPD did not release a complete video. LMPD said the entire length of all footage "will be released upon the completion of necessary redactions based on Kentucky open records law."
The video starts after Pickering was shot.
Police fire more than a dozen shots toward Lee at a portion of the park that borders residential homes in the video. LMPD officers Pickering, Richard Williams, Daniel Burnett, Joel Voelker and Nicholas Hollkamp were involved in the shooting.
Between the five officers, they have 15 letters of commendation. Officers Hollkamp and Voelker have five each. Only officer Richard Williams, who has been with the department more than 15 years, has a letter of reprimand for missing a court date 10 years ago.
Burnett and Hollkamp joined the department as recruits in 2020. Information was not released for how long Burnett and Pickering have been with LMPD.
The gun found on Lee was confirmed to be stolen, according to police.
Now that he's released, he will face several new charges:
- Receiving Stolen Property (firearm)
- Restricted Ammunition
- Attempted Murder Of A Police Officer
- Possession Of A Handgun By A Convicted Felon
- Fleeing/Evading 1st degree (on foot)
Lee was already facing numerous charges including:Â
- Possession of a Handgun By a Convicted Felon
- Theft By Unlawful Taking Firearm
- Tampering With Physical Evidence
- Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm)
- Fleeing/Evading 1st degree (on foot)
- Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree
- Theft By Deception
- Probation Violation
- Receiving Stolen Property
- Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree
- Violation of Emergency Protective Order
- Harassment With Physical Contact
