LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man won $75,000 by playing a Kentucky Lottery scratch-off.

The man, who asked to remain anonymous, played the Kentucky Bourbon Trail Scratch-off. The man who regularly plays the lottery has a unique way of picking a ticket.

He doesn't pick a specific ticket number, instead letting the clerk behind the counter guide his choice, according to lottery officials.

"I watched wherever his hand went first," the man said to the Kentucky Lottery. "That's the one I was going to pick."

He planned to buy a different ticket, but changed his mind after realizing he didn't have a enough money for his preferred game choice and two drinks.

When he scratched off the ticket at his home, he initially thought he won $500 or $5,000. But he kept scratching off the ticket, and the winnings kept increasing. It rose to the game's top prize of $75,000.

He shared the winning news with his wife.

"I won $75," he said to her.

She said, "I thought you got something good" and hung up the phone.

But the man called his wife back to explain he had actually won more.

"I said '75,000' and I hung up on her," he said.

His wife called back screaming with excitement.

The couple will use the winnings to travel.

"I am going to buy my wife an RV," he said. "She wants to travel. I would like a nice motorcycle, but nah, it ain't about me all the time."

The man will receive $54,000 after taxes. Market Zone, a Louisville retailer, will receive $750 for selling the winning ticket.

The $5 Kentucky Bourbon Trail launched April 3.
