Greenwood Boat Ramp in Louisville, Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Divers continue to search for a teen who went missing while swimming in the Ohio River near the Greenwood Boat Ramp Monday night.

The search resumed at daylight Tuesday morning after LMPD's River Unit and Dive Team paused their search hours earlier due to darkness.

Louisville Metro Police were called around 8:30 p.m. to help Pleasure Ridge Park Fire after a report of "a person in the Ohio River near the Greenwood Boat Ramp," department spokesperson Aaron Ellis said.

When crews arrived, they were told a male teen was swimming near the boat ramp with friends and had not resurfaced. Ellis said the other swimmers got out of the water safely.

Divers with PRP Fire and Louisville Fire are searching for the teen in the Ohio River near the dock. LMPD spokesperson John Bradley said the surface appears deceptively calm, but the undercurrents are strong.

"It looks like a nice, calm body of water," Bradley said. The reality is there's a very strong current, a very strong undercurrent here, and sometimes those currents come together and they make it nearly impossible to negotiate the water."
