LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville bus riders now have a new way to pay for fares using their smartphones.

The Transit Authority of River City launched mobile ticketing through the Token Transit app, giving eligible riders the ability to purchase fares anytime, store tickets digitally and display a mobile boarding pass when they board.

The app is free to download, but riders must first be approved and eligible before they can access and download tickets.

For riders who still prefer paper tickets, TARC is also eliminating shipping fees for paper fare purchases made online. The change saves customers $1.50 per order.

TARC said the new payment options are designed to make purchasing fares more convenient while continuing to offer paper tickets for riders who prefer a traditional option.
