LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Just in time for spring break, Waterfront Park is opening their first phase of their expansion on Wednesday.
Officials gave WDRB Mornings a sneak peek of their new PlayPort on Tuesday. It is a free, outdoor experiential learning area for kids of all ages.
Located between 10th and 14th streets right on the Ohio River, it's a convenient 20-minute walk for over 10,000 residents in Louisville's Portland and Russell neighborhoods.
The playground will also serve as a resource for STEM learning in partnership with the Kentucky Science Center.
"It's more than just a playground," Waterfront Park Executive Director Deborah Bilitski said. "It's an experience that brings real, authentic river and construction equipment and repurposes them for play."
The PlayPort also has a classroom, community meeting space, restrooms, and a parking lot.
The ribbon cutting is at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, and will be open for use afterwards.
