LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Hoosier drivers have a new option to put on the back of their car.

A new blackout license plate was unveiled by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles. It's a simple design with white letters over a black background.

The BMV came up with the idea several years ago to appeal to classic car enthusiasts, but others drivers like it too. The new plate was shown off so drivers can see what it would look like on cars or motorcycles.

"The interesting part about this plate is it's very simple about its design but it really gives car drivers and vehicle owners an opportunity to express themselves in a way that they haven't had," Kevin Garvey with Indiana BMV said. "We've heard from lots of different communities that have shared."

The new plate is an extra $45 each year. It will be available starting Aug. 8.
