LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- If everything looks dead in your garden beds, you are not alone.
It’s the perfect time to get them cleaned up and ready for next year.
Wallitsch Gardens has the following advice:
- Get all the weeds out
- Deadhead and prune your plants
- Wait to trim back evergreens until they go dormant around Thanksgiving
- Once everything is cleaned out, use pre-emergent to kill any weed seeds
- Put out fresh mulch or compost and mix it in with the soil. It will break down over winter and provide nutrients to what you plant in the spring.
It’s also important to take a picture with your smartphone or make note of where you planted your fruits and vegetables so you can rotate them for next season.
“It's better for the plant next year. It’s going to take up different nutrients and then you’ll have a better crop,” said Jeff Wallitsch.
