LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Bardstown Bourbon Company has wrapped up construction on its second distillery.
The company announced the $28 million expansion in 2022 and said it would add 29 new jobs. The new facility will allow Bardstown to produce 289,000 barrels a year. That's up from 25,000 when it opened. The distillery's new warehouse can hold nearly two million barrels, as well.
The company broke ground in 2014 on 100 acres of farmland near Bardstown. CEO Mark Erwin said in a news release that the company hasn't stopped growing since it started operations in 2016.
"This most recent expansion is the latest proof point in our commitment to deliver the highest quality, most consistent whiskey available to custom distilling customers in Kentucky," Erwin said. "We have the track record, the team and the ability to continue investing in our business to provide the best customer experience available anywhere."
The expansion brings online a complete second distillery. The campus now includes three column stills and 48 fermentation tanks, and a state-of-the-art bottling and logistics facility.
The Bardstown Bourbon Company said that even while doubling its capacity, the energy conservation means it uses 30% less energy than it did in 2018.
Over the next three years, the company said it will implement additional energy and resource conserving initiatives, including non-traditional solutions to spent grain, fertilization and solar.
