LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two hurricanes in a row have left thousands of cars underwater. Now, some of those flood damaged cars could be headed for used car lots near you.
The damage is not always obvious to see, so it's important to take the right steps in confirming that it's clean to buy.
Even if you don't live in a flood prime area, it is very easy these days to end up buying a flood damaged car, which could end up costing you thousands of dollars in repairs.
Any used car that was shipped in from Florida's gulf coast is the biggest red flag of them all.
On the outside of the car, inspect the taillight housings. If there are signs of moisture, that could meal flood damage.
In the trunk or anywhere where there is carpet, any signs of dampness or discoloration could be a sign that it was underwater.
A brand new battery or wiring can also be a red flag.
To dig a little deeper, pull up the CarFax and check its repair history.
Any used car that has taken on flood damage will face constant electrical problems that will hurt your pocketbook, and give you a headache.
