LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It used to be when your car was recalled for a problem, you'd call the dealer and get it in for repair next week.

But, times have changed.

One man's car has a fire risk and can only be parked outdoors, even with tons of garage space.

His dealer says he doesn't have the parts to fix it on hand.

He kept getting pushed back months and months by his dealer, and mechanics are saying this has become more common in the past few years.

It can take months to produce the parts because automakers have issued thousands of recalls involving millions of vehicles.

Some car owners have waited over a year for an airbag, while others have waited six months for a new engine.

If your dealer can't get you in for a recall fix, try some other dealers as they may have a shorter wait list.
