LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville woman was arrested Monday, charged in connection with the murder of her former boyfriend earlier this month near the Highlands.
Lanesha Blakey, 28, was arrested Monday on a murder charge in connection with the fatal shooting of Bryant Johnson, 35, Louisville Metro Police said in a news release.
Blakey was also charged with assault in connection with the April 20 shooting on Bardstown Road.
Police said at the time that officers had been called to a reported shooting on Bardstown Road at the intersection with Baxter Avenue around 3:30 a.m.
Once on scene, they found two vehicles that had crashed into each other. Johnson was in one of the vehicles. Police said he had been shot nearby and drove "a short distance" when the crash happened. He was taken to University of Louisville Hospital where he later died, according to LMPD.
The person in the other vehicle was not seriously injured in the crash but was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
LMPD said Blakey was arrested Monday without incident in the 600 block of West Main Street. She is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday morning.
According to court documents, police said Blakey hit another woman in the face and head with a handgun, causing the woman's face to swell. She then shot Johnson in the groin, causing his death, police said.
Blakey — who court documents said is the former girlfriend of Johnson — fled the scene. The incident was caught on nearby surveillance video.
