LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville nonprofit focused on giving children affected by violence opportunities to learn has released a 100-page educational book.

Christopher 2X's Game Changers has devoted resources to supporting children impacted by gun violence with the Future Healers program, which is a partnership between the Game Changers, UofL Hospital's Trauma Institute and students at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. The goal of the program is to help Louisville children who have been impacted by violence in their neighborhoods to build a better future.

The Future Healers program is celebrating its third anniversary in July. This month, the program released the Future Healers Journey to Wellness Personal Journal. It's a 100-page book that blends fun and learning activities for a unique resource that focuses on wellness and health sciences.

University of Louisville School of Medicine students authored the book.

"In all my years in the UofL surgery department, my colleagues and I could not have ever imagined this book materializing in such a powerful way," Dr. Keith Miller, a UofL trauma surgeon, said in a news release. "The students' hard work at the School of Medicine impacts kids' lives through this wonderful, fun an learning experience of health sciences."

The book project was supported by the Bureau of Justice Assistance and the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet.

The book starts with firearm, burn and fire safety tips. Then it focuses on wellness by highlighting the importance of vitamins and nutrients, sleep and relaxing, among other topics. Each section ends with a journal entry. The book also has a section on coping strategies before focusing on the human body.

"This journal is a beautiful roadmap towards encouragement and success laid out by the students at the School of Medicine in a phenomenal way to continue impacting young lives," 2X said in a news release. "Some of them have been affected by first and secondary trauma due to violent shootings and negativity issues to uplift their lives."
