LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville nonprofit that supports children affected by gun violence met with Gov. Andy Beshear last week to discuss the progress of an educational initiative.
Future Healers Kiddos Medical program is an educational initiative that introduces children to medicine and science as a way to provide opportunity and learning to build upon their future.
Christopher 2X's Game Changers has devoted resources to supporting children impacted by gun violence with the Future Healers program, which is a partnership between the Game Changers, UofL Hospital's Trauma Institute and students at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. The goal of the program is to help Louisville children who have been impacted by violence in their neighborhoods to build a better future.
"Programs like this open doors, inspire dreams and build a healthier, stronger future for our New Kentucky Home," Beshear posted. "Thank you for making a difference."
Christopher 2X said representatives from the Future Healers shared the success and growth of the program. The educational initiative is supporting around 400 children and teenagers. Last year, the Kentucky Medical Association selected leaders of the Future Healers program as recipients of the 2023 KMA Community Service Award.
Earlier this month, the nonprofit launched the program at three JCPS elementary schools. The students' lessons come from the medical journal and they'll learn curriculum taught by University of Louisville medical students and members of University of Louisville's Department of Surgery.

Earlier this year, the nonprofit's program released the Future Healers Journey to Wellness Personal Journal. It's a 100-page book that blends fun and learning activities for a unique resource that focuses on wellness and health sciences. University of Louisville School of Medicine students authored the book.
The program for children ages 4-to-13 expanded to Nashville. The Future Healers program are now working with doctors from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and nonprofit Stronger Than My Father to help form The Future is NOW (Non-violent Options Win).
In August, the Future Healers program kicked off its fourth year of instruction in Louisville.
