"It was crushing to hear to be quite frank with you," Christopher 2X, a community activist, said.

According to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office, 14-year-old Alston Walters died at the scene.

"I've talked to many family members over time, who hurt equally about their loved ones, especially the young, being involved in these kinds of incidents. It hurts them to the core," Christopher 2X said.

Police said Walters died from gunshot wounds.

"The bottom line is that when you hear about kids, constantly getting impacted by violence, shootings, there's no comfort in that," Christopher 2X said.

The teenage boy died just two and a half week's shy of his 15th birthday.

"It always pulls the heartstrings, especially when it's that young," Christopher 2X said.

LMPD said there have been at least 115 homicides this year.

"There is just almost a no win situation in this community, and trying to wrap your arms around the complexities of this," Christopher 2X said. "The wanton endangerment issues, bullets flying through windows. Kids been in harm's way and have nothing to do with the issues that led to a violent act. This horrific in this community. We cannot dismiss that the impact on the youth. Sometimes they don't even verbalize what they're going through."

According to WDRB's homicide data, Walters is at least the 12th teen killed in Louisville in 2023.

"We don't personally know this young person, but it hits home because you know, the ripple effect is easy and clearly seen amongst peers and equally the youth are constantly hear about violence issues within Metro Louisville on a daily basis," Christopher 2X said.

Christopher 2X said don't be afraid to reach out.

"Resources are available, but you have to reach out because sometimes people who really want to help, they don't know unless you reach out to them, about what you would like to help with," Christopher 2X said.

LMPD has not named any suspects in this case and they're still investigating.
