LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Six years after a south Louisville woman's murder, her family is holding an event to raise awareness about domestic violence and support the Center for Women and Families.

Brittany Wilson's dismembered body was found inside a freezer in a burned out mobile home on River Road in LaRue County on July 22, 2019. Investigators believe Wilson, 33, was killed at a home on Ashby Lane in Louisville on an unknown date as part of a double murder.

The body of another woman, Nicole Murray, 39, was also found shot to death in a car on the LaRue County property where Wilson was found. Police said Murray was shot twice during a "domestic situation" and died at the scene, which was at the mobile home.

Police said the suspect, Michael Murray, 40, confessed to both murders to a family member, set the home on fire and took his own life. He was found dead inside the mobile home.

Next month, on what would have been her 40th birthday, Wilson's family is hosting a "Speak Up and Speak Out" rally in her honor, while raising funds for the Center for Women and Families and the work they do.

"If we can save one person, what an amazing birthday that would be for her," Cortney Litsey, Wilson's sister, said. "We might not have been able to save her, but her legacy is going to save somebody. I know it will."

The rally is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 23 at Grace Crossing Church on Ashby Lane in Louisville, across from the home where Wilson was reportedly killed. It will feature resources, vendors, raffles, food trucks and more.

Following her death, Wilson's family has held several fundraising events to help domestic violence survivors.
