LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jefferson County's new clerk will hold a special election to fill his old position.
David Yates was appointed to the position by Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg following the passing of longtime clerk Bobbie Holsclaw.
At the time of his appointment, Yates served as the state senator for District 37 in southwest Louisville.
A special election will now be held to fill the Senate seat, and Yates is encouraging everyone to vote.
"People are worried about what's happening at their kitchen table. They're worried about how things are affecting their children and the community," he said. "So I think those are usually the issues that are near and dear to the area."
Democratic candidate Gary Clemons will be facing off against Republican Calvin Leach in the special election, scheduled for Dec. 16.
Those who live in the district and aren't registered to vote yet have until Nov. 17 to do so. To register, click here.
